How the 2026 Air Force PT Test Is Scored
The Physical Fitness Readiness Assessment (PFRA) replaced the old PFA scoring on 1 March 2026. It drops the 1.5-mile run for a 2-mile run, adds a waist-to-height ratio worth 20 points, and gives you a choice of events for strength and core. Every number in this calculator comes from the AFPC scoring charts dated 17 March 2026. Source: AFPC PFRA scoring charts.
| Component | Points | Your choice of event |
|---|---|---|
| Cardio | 35 to 50 | 2-mile run or 20 m HAMR |
| Body composition | 0 to 20 | Waist-to-height ratio (same for everyone) |
| Strength | 2.5 to 15 | Push-ups or hand-release push-ups, 1 minute |
| Core | 2.5 to 15 | Sit-ups, cross-leg reverse crunch or forearm plank |
Under AFMAN 36-2905 (24 March 2026) a composite of 90 or more is Excellent, 75 to 89.9 is Satisfactory, and anything under 75, or any missed component minimum, is Unsatisfactory. On the charts, the lowest scoring row of the run, HAMR, push-up and core tables is starred: that row is the minimum. Do worse than it and the component scores zero and the test is a fail.
Run and Push-Up Standards by Age
Full points and the minimum for the two events most Airmen pick. The 2-mile time is the slowest time that still earns the points; push-ups are reps in one minute.

Core Minimums by Age
The three core events are scored on separate charts. Sit-ups and the reverse crunch drop one rep per half point; the plank drops five seconds per half point. Minimums (2.5 points):
| Age | Sit-ups M | Sit-ups F | Plank M | Plank F |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Under 25 | 33 | 29 | 1:35 | 1:30 |
| 25-29 | 31 | 25 | 1:30 | 1:25 |
| 30-34 | 29 | 20 | 1:25 | 1:20 |
| 35-39 | 27 | 18 | 1:20 | 1:15 |
| 40-44 | 25 | 16 | 1:15 | 1:10 |
| 45-49 | 23 | 10 | 1:10 | 1:05 |
| 50-54 | 21 | 9 | 1:05 | 1:00 |
| 55-59 | 19 | 7 | 1:00 | 0:55 |
| 60+ | 17 | 6 | 0:55 | 0:50 |
Waist-to-Height Points
Waist divided by height, read to two decimals. The scale is the same for every age and both sexes: 0.49 or less is 20 points, then one point is lost for each hundredth up to 0.54 (15 points). From 0.55 the drop doubles to 2.5 points per hundredth, and 0.60 or more scores zero. The chart groups 0.49 and under as low risk, 0.50 to 0.59 as moderate risk and 0.60 and over as high risk. Our Air Force WHtR calculator shows the waist you need for your height.
A Worked Example
Male Airman, 22, 5'10", waist 35". He runs 2 miles in 16:00, does 52 push-ups and 48 sit-ups. The run beats 16:16 but not 15:57, so it earns 42 of 50. Fifty-two push-ups is the 10-point row, and 48 sit-ups is also 10. His ratio is 35 ÷ 70 = 0.50, worth 19. Total: 42 + 10 + 10 + 19 = 81, Satisfactory. Cutting the run to 15:19 alone would add three points; taking an inch off the waist adds one.
The run carries half the test, so it is usually the fastest way up. If running is weak, compare the HAMR chart: under-25 men need 87 shuttles for 50 points and 42 for the minimum.
Test Dates and Frequency
Every Airman tests every six months, whatever the last score. The Air Force called March to August 2026 a diagnostic period and resumed scored testing on 1 September 2026. Source: af.mil. The latest charts and the AFMAN are posted on the AFPC Fitness Program page; AFSPECWAR and EOD Airmen use separate charts.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a passing Air Force PT score in 2026?
75 or more out of 100, with every component minimum met. 75 to 89.9 is Satisfactory and 90 or more is Excellent. Missing one component minimum is Unsatisfactory, even if the total is above 75.
How is the new Air Force PT test scored?
Four parts add up to 100: cardio 50 points (2-mile run or 20-meter HAMR), waist-to-height ratio 20 points, strength 15 points (push-ups or hand-release push-ups) and core 15 points (sit-ups, cross-leg reverse crunch or forearm plank). Points depend on your age group and sex.
Did the Air Force replace the 1.5-mile run?
Yes. The PFRA uses a 2-mile run, with the 20-meter HAMR as the other cardio option. The old 1.5-mile run is gone.
What run time do I need for full points?
It depends on age and sex. For example, men under 25 need 13:25 or faster for 50 points and 19:45 for the minimum; women under 25 need 15:30 for full points and 25:23 for the minimum. The table on this page lists every age group.
Is there a minimum for waist-to-height ratio?
The AFPC chart does not mark a minimum for WHtR the way it does for the run, push-ups and core events. A ratio of 0.49 or less earns all 20 points and 0.60 or more earns zero, which makes reaching 75 much harder.
When did the new scoring start counting?
The charts are effective 1 March 2026. The Air Force announced that tests from March through August 2026 were diagnostic and official scored testing resumed on 1 September 2026, with a test every six months.
Is this calculator official?
No. It is an independent self-check built from the AFPC scoring charts dated 17 March 2026. Your Fitness Assessment Cell's result in the official system is what counts.
